We are very lucky to have a good life, fantastic job and amazing families. I personally believe it is paramount to return the favor to the world around us. How you choose to square up with the universe is totally up to you. At best, you can make the most unbelievable impact in a person’s life. At the very least you can refrain from being the reason that someone else has a bad day. We can’t help you with the hard work part, but here are some suggestions for the good mojo. Oh, and it’s not just about donating money. That’s terrific and needed, but you can donate your time and effort as well.
Here are a few sites that may help you find something you’re passionate about: www.volunteermatch.org, www.idealist.org, www.handsonnetwork.org
We have had a long relationship with the MDA and are very proud and honored to work with such incredible people on various projects throughout the years. In addition to the projects we already take on for the MDA, this fall, Frank Grumeretz, owner of Turning Point Productions will be running the Chicago Marathon in order to raise funds to help fight muscle disease. Yeah, the Marathon-26.2 miles! If you are interested in donating to such an amazing charity, check out Frank’s personal page. No amount is too small and together we can make a huge difference. Feel free to come to the city to cheer on all the runners on October 11th! www2.mda.org/goto/FrankG

St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. With research and patient care under one roof, St. Jude is where some of today’s most gifted researchers are able to do science more quickly. The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Marklund enriches the lives of those with special healthcare needs by honoring the unique purpose of each individual. Those we serve are able to enjoy a full and meaningful life supported by a compassionate, nurturing environment; a strong partnership with the community; and an unmatched dedication to personal growth. Nearly all of those served are non-ambulatory and have severe cognitive deficits. Most also have complex medical problems that require 24-hour skilled nursing care. Marklund is there for these families faced with the difficult decision of finding quality care for their loved ones who have severe and profound developmental disabilities. Serving as the heartbeat of The V Foundation for Cancer Research, formed by ESPN and Jim in 1993, his words throughout the ESPY speech have never been more meaningful. After being diagnosed with cancer at the young age of 46, Jim dreamed of finding cures for cancer. Passionate and committed, he wanted to see his fight through to victory. As a former coach, he began to recruit his team of family and friends to lead the Foundation in his quest to eradicate the disease. Jim’s dream of finding a cure for cancer is one shared by millions. Although we have not yet achieved this goal, every day we get a little bit closer and will continue to honor his inspiring words, “Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!” ® To find out what you can do visit their website at www.jimmyv.org
